Assassin X 120 R Digital Black: a small status screen above the CPU

This Assassin X 120 R Digital Black uses a plain black fan, leaving the small top display as its visual focus. It is the non-ARGB fan version, suited to a restrained build where you want a status readout without illuminated fan blades.

Make the display easy to see

A cooler display is most useful when the case sits where you can actually glance at it. Check the viewing angle through the side panel before choosing a digital model for this feature.

The display uses an internal USB connection and Thermalright software. Leave the header accessible during assembly and install the software before expecting the screen to show system information.

A compact four-pipe tower

The cooler uses four 6mm heat pipes and a 120mm fan. Its specified height is 151mm; check that against the case limit and leave room for the fan clips.

Although the layout is compact, RAM and motherboard heatsinks still deserve a look. Arrange the fan and case exhaust to move air along a consistent route.

A plain fan keeps wiring simpler

The non-ARGB fan needs its PWM connection, and the display has its own USB lead. There is no separate fan-lighting cable to synchronise.

Set the fan response through the motherboard and listen during ordinary use before increasing its speed. The top screen can remain the visible accent while the rest of the cooler stays dark.

Before you close the case

  • Confirm the socket hardware and 151mm clearance.
  • Check that cables cannot touch the fan blades.
  • Verify the internal USB connection and display software.
  • Check cooling behaviour with the side panel fitted.

This model suits a build where a small display is useful and a single tower is the right physical fit.
