TR-M.2 2280 Type A/B: black fins in a compact space
The M.2 area often sits among other busy parts of the motherboard. Thermalright’s black Type A/B cooler gives a compatible 2280 SSD a compact finned aluminium body. It is a visually restrained option for a dark build, with passive cooling that adds no fan cable or lighting setup.

Fins with a clear purpose
The ridged upper surface provides an exposed aluminium area for heat to pass into the surrounding air. Leave space around it and maintain the case’s airflow path. A cooler squeezed into a stagnant pocket of air cannot be judged by its fin count alone.
Check more than the 2280 label
The body is listed at 70 × 24 × 12mm. The 2280 designation identifies the intended drive format, but you still need to verify the component layout and the space above the motherboard. Check for graphics-card overlap and any existing M.2 cover before assembly.
Assemble around the drive carefully
Follow the instructions for the thermal interfaces and the screws that hold the cooler together. The SSD should stay flat, with no force needed to accommodate its components. Do not add extra pad layers simply to make the assembly feel tighter.
A practical fit for a dark build
If your motherboard already includes a suitable M.2 heatsink, assess whether a replacement is needed before changing it. Monitor the drive under a representative workload after installation.
This black Type A/B model is a sensible choice when the exact drive fit is confirmed and the available space matches the complete cooler, not just the bare SSD.
